STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
As a Truck Driver for the New Bakery Transportation Company, you will be responsible for operating a tractor-trailer to transport products, ensuring timely delivery, and adhering to company and regulatory standards. Key duties include maintaining contact with supervisors or dispatchers for delivery instructions, offloading products, maintaining proper logs and documentation, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory procedures.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Safety Inspections: Perform pre-trip, mid-trip, and post-trip inspections on the truck and trailer to check tires, lights, brakes, horn, windshield wipers, mirrors, and coupling devices. Document and sign off on inspections as per Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR).
- Transport & Delivery: Drive the truck to designated destinations, remove empty racks, clean freezers, rotate products, and reload empty racks. Ensure proper unloading, placement of products, and completion of necessary paperwork and documentation.
- Customer Service: Maintain high standards of customer service and awareness of customer needs during all deliveries.
- Log & Record Keeping: Accurately record duty status using electronic logs or paper logs as required by FMCSR.
- Communication: Promptly notify the company of any vehicle breakdowns, accidents, or delays.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with company policies, procedures, and federal regulations.
- Other Duties: Perform any additional job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this role successfully, candidates must be able to meet essential job requirements, which may include making reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with FMCSR, duty recording devices, alarm systems, and general truck repair.
- Experience & License: 1-3 years of tractor-trailer driving experience and a valid Class A commercial driver’s license. Physical exam required every 2 years.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Duration of Trips: Up to 40 hours.
- Physical Demands: Heavy lifting, up to 75 lbs. and moving items weighing over 100 lbs. (with dollies/carts). Frequent bending, squatting, and sitting for long periods. Exposure to various weather conditions.
DRIVER STATUSES
Lead Driver: This full-time role is the most senior driver position, responsible for equipment, paperwork, and adherence to procedures. Runs are scheduled three times per week, with selection based on seniority. Currently, there are no openings for lead driver positions.
2nd Seat/Co-Driver: This full-time role supports the lead driver and assumes lead duties when required. Scheduled for three runs per week, with a pay rate lower than the lead driver. There are no openings for 2nd seat/co-driver positions.
Casual Driver: Full-time, on-call 24/7 to fill in for 2nd seat drivers. Occasionally, may step into lead or 2nd seat roles, especially during peak seasons or Saturdays.
