More Carriers Announce Driver Pay Raises
Carriers continue to hike pay in hopes of stemming the driver shortage, with Cargo Transporters, B&G Supply Co., Montgomery Transport and Two Marines Moving among the latest to announce raises.
Montgomery Transport, a flatbed carrier based in Birmingham, Ala., announced March 3 that it is again raising pay by 3 cents per mile.
“Our drivers work extremely hard and have persevered over these last couple of challenging years,” Montgomery Transport CEO Rollins Montgomery said. “We were very proud last year to be able to provide them the largest pay increase in our company’s history, and we’re very excited to be matching that again this year.”

Montgomery Transport also increased pay for its dedicated drivers, effective March 1. It follows other incentives already in place such as an annual 1-cent-per-mile tenure pay increase, a pay-for-performance plan that gives drivers the opportunity to earn up to an additional $600 per four-week pay period, and tiered loyalty pay.
Cargo Transporters, a regional and national carrier based in Claremont, N.C., announced the largest driver pay increase in its four-decade history.
Cargo Transporters will increase solo driver pay 6 cents per practical mile on all dispatched miles. This means the starting base pay is now 60 cents per mile. Team driver pay will increase 3 cents per mile on all dispatched miles.
“We ask these drivers to sacrifice time at home with their family, uphold a high level of safety, fuel and maintain equipment, care for freight and dozens of other tasks,” Cargo Transporters Chairman John Pope said in a statement. “We are proud to offer this level of compensation for those that are the best in class in their profession.”
The increase was effective Feb. 27, covering all of its over-the-road drivers.
B&G Supply Co. is a temperature-controlled truckload carrier based in Albertville, Ala. It also implemented the largest comprehensive pay increase in its history — the second pay increase from the company in six months.
B&G said every over-the-road and regional company driver will receive a per-mile bump to 50 cents. They will be paid weekly with a quarterly bonus program, giving them the potential to earn 55 cents a mile and four extra paychecks a year.
The increase was effective March 1.
“B&G drivers have been nothing short of remarkable over the last few years through some challenging times in the transportation industry,” B&G Operations Manager Jimmy Floyd said in a statement. “They’ve stepped up to the plate every time they’ve been asked to help keep stores stocked and food on the shelves across the country.”
The announcement comes with the implementation of several new benefits, including a new driver referral bonus, a sign-on bonus and standing benefits.
“Truck drivers are the backbone of America, and B&G employees top talent when it comes to OTR drivers,” B&G co-owner David Mitchell said. “This pay increase is not only well-deserved for our hard-working drivers, but necessary to continue hiring and retaining the best talent in today’s competitive driver market.”
Two Marines Moving provides residential and business transportation as well as storage solutions based in Alexandria, Va. The company raised pay across the board Feb. 28. Average compensation has increased 25% from entry level employees to the senior management team in the last year.
The raise follows record setting pay increases in May.
Company minimum wage for any full time, part time or transitional position is now $15 an hour. All team members receive 5% on top of their regular pay for all weekend days worked.
“We were previously quite competitive with our peers. Now we offer industry leading compensation at Two Marines Moving,” Two Marines Moving founder Nicholas Baucom said in a statement.
The company also has multiplier on base pay based on military service and rank.
